I was born in Beijing and grew up in ancient capital. I love the city and think it was mysterious place, the Great Wall, the Palace, the old street. In 1971, I had to leave high school go to printing factory. It was hard time for teenage boy. From that time I began to photograph. I never went to Art institute or college, I just held a cheap camera to capture images from around the city. In 1980, my works began appearing at China photo's magazine.
